TASYA BABY & KID STORE - Starting a new store chain from scratch
Background
Learning from Klinik Dharma Bhakti customer portfolio, a substantial percentage of patient visits was related to babies and children under five years old. We therefore encouraged the family owner of Klinik Dharma Bhakti Medika to expand its business into Baby & Kid's store. The first store was set up near the main clinic for ease of supervision. The store would have to compete with a nearby supermarket and a Carrefour outlet less than 5 km from the store.
Bringing up the New Business
We started with store design utilizing display best practices. Then, products were classified to help examine inventory and products turnover. Basic reporting and monitoring systems were also developed to manage business operations more comprehensively. Last, we developed marketing campaign which included targeted brochure, strategically located banners, and loyalty card (VIP card) for high spending customers.
Results
By the end of first year, almost 30% of initial investments had been recovered. Monthly sales in 1st quarter of the second year were three times monthly sales during first year operation. Using conservative scenario, we estimate pay back period will be reached within 2 - 2.5 years.
